It’s time to establish a Community Climate Board in Eugene

Eugene City Council:
It is time to establish a Community Climate Board!

A message from Linda Heyl, Coordinator, Eugene Community Climate Coalition:

On Monday, Oct 28th, Betty Grant with Citizens’ Climate Lobby will present this group’s Petition for a Climate Accountability and Advisory Board to the Eugene City Council. We have collected several hundred signatures so far!

The demand is for more community input into Eugene’s climate planning process in the form of a Climate Accountability and Advisory Board, as the Climate Action Plan moves from completion to systematic implementation in 2020. The Board would work directly with the Sustainability Staff to give input from a community perspective on how to flesh out objectives and action steps so as to reach the CAP goals. The Board might be made up of representatives from the front line community groups that participated in the Equity Panel, from other community groups whose missions address aspects of climate action, Lane Community College (LCC), University of Oregon (UO) and other local professional experts, community business representatives, etc.

A decision by the Council to establish a Community Climate Board is crucial to equitable and successful implementation of the CAP. This moment provides an excellent opportunity for climate action in Eugene! Please write an email to your councilor, or to the entire council in support. Letters from your group members would also be wonderful!
