Stipend: $2,250

Hours: 120 over 12 weeks

Location: In person at the Beyond Toxics office located in Downtown Eugene and it’s fully ADA accessible.

Anticipated Start Date: Late April

Anticipated End Date: Mid July

Description

The person filling this internship position will provide program coordination and outreach support for Beyond Toxics’ Rise As Leaders youth cohort. This cohort engages young leaders (ages 15–25) in environmental justice projects, leadership development, and community-based advocacy throughout Oregon’s southern Willamette Valley.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with youth recruitment, outreach, and communications strategies.

  • Supporting planning and facilitation of leadership trainings, workshops, and cohort meetings.

  • Coordinating youth participation in environmental justice campaigns, events, and policy advocacy opportunities.

  • Collecting and organizing creative and personal narratives (video, spoken word, writing, visual art, etc.) from participants to highlight diverse perspectives in the movement.

    Collaborating with Beyond Toxics staff, community partners, and youth cohort members to meet program objectives.

  • Providing occasional administrative support related to program evaluation and documentation.

A portion of work may take place in collaboration with local schools, community centers, and organizations in Eugene/Springfield and surrounding areas.

Minimum Requirements

  • One of the following: Completion of college-level coursework in environmental studies, sociology, ethnic and gender studies, journalism, non-profit management, political science, anthropology, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of training and experience in community organizing, environmental justice, or social equity initiatives; or participation in a previous Rise As Leaders cohort.

  • Experience working with youth and diverse communities, including students from communities of color, Indigenous and Tribal communities, and immigrant communities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise initiative, and stay organized.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Interest in environmental and climate justice issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingue en español.

  • Experience with media, communications, or creative outreach (social media campaigns, video, photography, spoken word, storytelling).

  • Familiarity with program coordination, workshop facilitation, or grassroots advocacy.
