PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -More than half of plants sold at major stores like Lowes and Home Depot contain a pesticide that experts say is killing off bees.

That’s according to a new report out of California.
Experts say they found national garden centers selling plants pre-treated with pesticides that are deadly to bees. The Pesticide Action Network of North America sponsored the study and released the findings Wednesday.
The study hits close to home after two local situations where a large number of bees were found dead near trees. It happened in Wilsonville and in Hillsboro.
Activists say retailers should be required to label the plants if they use the pesticides.
Fox 12 contacted Lowes and Home Depot asking for a comment about the study involving the plants they sell, but have not received a call back from either company.
